FAQs
How often should I get a haircut?
1
As a general guide, we recommend a trim every 8 to 12 weeks to keep your style looking its best and prevent split ends from travelling up the hair shaft. However, this varies depending on your hair type, length and the style you're maintaining. Your stylist will always advise what's right for you specifically during your consultation.
What is the difference between balayage and highlights?
2
Highlights use foils to apply colour in consistent sections from root to tip, creating a more uniform, defined result. Balayage is a freehand painting technique that creates a softer, more natural-looking colour that blends beautifully as it grows out. Balayage tends to be lower maintenance, requiring touch-ups only once or twice a year, while traditional highlights are typically refreshed every 6 to 10 weeks.
How do I maintain my colour between salon visits?
3
Use a colour-safe, sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner to preserve your tone and keep hair hydrated. Wash with cool rather than hot water, as heat opens the hair cuticle and causes colour to fade faster. A weekly colour-protecting mask and a UV protectant spray when spending time outdoors will also help keep your colour vibrant for longer.
Will colouring damage my hair?
4
When performed by an experienced professional using high-quality products, colour services can be done with minimal impact on hair health. At The Beauty Temple, we always assess your hair's condition prior to any colour service and incorporate nourishing treatments where needed to keep your hair strong, healthy and beautiful throughout the process.
How do I know which haircut suits my face shape?
5
This is exactly what your consultation is for! A skilled stylist will assess your face shape, hair texture, lifestyle and personal style to recommend the cut that best enhances your natural features. We always encourage clients to bring reference photos as inspiration — they are a wonderful starting point for the conversation.
What is a bond repair treatment and do I need one??
6
Bond repair treatments such as Olaplex work by rebuilding the internal structure of the hair that can be broken down by colouring, bleaching or heat styling. If your hair feels dry, brittle or lacks its usual elasticity, a bond repair treatment can make a significant difference — restoring strength, shine and resilience. Your stylist can assess whether this is right for you.
How long will my colour appointment take?
7
This depends on the service. A root touch-up can take 1.5 to 2 hours, while a full balayage or highlights service with toning and a treatment can take anywhere from 2.5 to 4 hours. We always recommend allowing plenty of time so there's no rushing — great colour deserves patience!
Should I wash my hair before coming to the salon?
8
For most services, coming in with hair that is clean but not freshly washed that same day is ideal — a little natural oil actually helps protect the scalp during colour services. For a dry cut or styling appointment, clean dry hair is preferable. If you're unsure, don't hesitate to ask us when you book.
How can I protect my hair from heat damage at home?
9
Always apply a heat protectant spray before using any hot tools such as straighteners, curling irons or blow dryers. Use the lowest effective temperature setting for your hair type, and try to limit heat styling to a few times per week. A regular deep conditioning treatment will also help keep your hair resilient against everyday styling.
